Wonderful news for our little club

JULY 2021

A charity that offers swimming lessons to disabled children will benefit from a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes through its Building Futures initiative supporting under 18s.
The North East Disability Swimming Club was selected by Persimmon Homes Durham to receive £1,000 from the Building Futures initiative, launched in partnership with Team GB, the British Olympic Association.
Carla Clarke, a spokesperson for the charity, said: “We offer learn to swim and competitive swim programmes for children and young people with a variety of disabilities across region. We will use this money to invest in personal equipment for each swimming member, and specialist equipment for the competitive swimmers to help them achieve their aspirations.”
“Unfortunately, people with disabilities are often excluded from activities that provide a sense of belonging, identity and greatly improve both physical and mental health.”
“This fantastic donation will transform our disability swimming club and allow members to fulfil their goals in the safe hands of trained instructors. Our main achievement is that we give disabled swimmers the chance to belong.”
The Club is proud to have nurtured the talent of its members, some of whom have competed internationally, and has seen several of its members reach the Paralympics and win both gold and bronze medals.
The Building Futures scheme aims to support community groups working with under 18s across three categories – Education & Arts, Health and Sport.
